Leather Etc. is a little-known, San Francisco-based store specializing in leather attire, restraints, and toys. One of the first things I purchased here was the Beginner Bondage Kit in black. I’ve been so pleased with it that I’ve also purchased the kit in pink and am considering adding a purple edition to my collection. (Not that I need three–this would be a present for that special, yet naughty, lady.) The kit comes in different sizes for increased customability and comfort. The first kit I ordered was via the store’s website, so I got the basic set, which is pretty burly. The leather of the cuffs and collar are prettz thick and lined with soft, dense fur, making them comfortable as well as confining. A cute riding crop with a hand-shaped head, blindfold, chain leash, small ball gag, and double-sided clips complete the kit.
If you take the time to go through the website or just order in store, you can better customize your kit for about the same low price. Posture collars, paddles, locking cuffs and collars, wide-headed riding crops, and more can help you meet your kinky needs exactly. And, if you like a uniform appearance to your toy chest, you can always go back later and add more, matching toys. Since Leather Etc. makes all their own merchandise, the colors are uniform and perfectly matched.
These kits are beautiful, personal, (comprably) inexpensive, and show quality craftsmanship. So while they’re of course aimed at beginners, more experienced players may want to invest in one, too–especially if you want your kit to stand out.
Penny: Bamboo Cane

This cane was an extreme disappointment. I got it because I’d been wanting a hooked cane, which in my opinion just looks more elegant than the usual straight cane. So when I saw this item on JT’s Stockroom, I ordered it immediately. (Beware the impulse buy!) When the box arrived I was so excited that I ripped it open in my hallway and dumped the contents on the floor.
Imagine my disappointment when from the pile of invoices, free porn passes, coupons, and bubble wrap I pulled a novelty cane. That’s right. This “sex toy” is nothing more than a cheap bamboo novelty cane. You may have seen them at Boswell’s where they’re sold as joke gifts for those turning sixty. Cautiously optimistic I picked the cane up and gave it a few experimental swings. A dull woosh evaporated that optimism, replacing it with discontent. This, in turn, became revulsion when I discovered the jagged metal tip on the business end. Ouch! So not only was the toy a dud–it was downright unsafe!
I suppose I could have covered the tip with plastic or demoved it and sanded down the end, but when a toy is so overpriced (if you want one, grab it at a party shop for a buck), I don’t expect to have to break out my DIY kit just to bring it up to code. I’ve never felt so dismal over any sex toy I’ve ever purchased. Most of the items I’ve gotten from JT’s Stockroom I’ve found to be of at least middling quality and I sincerely hope that someone got fired for this blunder. As you may know, JT’s just took over Stormy Leather, a San Francisco-based company specializing in high quality/high cost kinky attire.

I’m not sure why anyone would call this heavy baton a cane. Maybe a rod or a brain basher, but not a cane. It’s almost easier to swing the awkward, inflexible thing like a bat. The problem with the “cane” is that there’s no in-between impact level: either the bottom can’t feel it or it’s bashing her to bits. It completely lacks the stinginess of the usual rattan cane and the weight would be better suited to a paddle or even a light flogger.
The item’s near uselessness in the dungeon is disappointing, as it’s very well-crafted. The cherry red color is absolutely gorgeous and the rubber grip and stopper are well-affixed and comfortable. Cheap as it is, you may still want to save your money–unless you’re with an extremely heavy masochist into no-holds-barred beatings.

The obvious concern with this toy is that the feathers will get gunky and gross, as with the bunny tail butt plug. I was pleasantly surprised to find that not only do the feathers pop out for easy cleaning (or for use as a regular plug), but there’s a protective lip that helps keep them from getting dirty in the first place. Also, the feathers stand up to cleaning much better than the easily matted and pulled-out bunny fur did.
Besides being easy to clean, this silicone plug is extremely comfortable to wear. The tip is rounded so it doesn’t slip in quite so easily, but I really like the way it feels after insertion. I’m not entirely sure why, but I really recommend it. The thin neck and outer lip keep it from falling out. Also, the removable feathers mean that a small vibrator can be placed in the cavity with interesting and enjoyable results!

The attractive hand-carved Cocobola hardwood handle on this Delrin cane provides a nicely weighted, comfortable grip. It is beautiful to look at and can provide a spectrum of sensations from tame to extreme.
While I haven’t personally shelled out for this lovely little toy, one of the dungeons I work at has both the 24” and 30” versions. The House Mistress says they’ve been in use for years and neither shows even the slightest bit of wear. The rods are still as firm and strong as ever, the handles comfortable and firmly attached. And of course I know first hand how often they’re used.
While the toy may be a bit pricey–especially for a cane–its elegance alone is enough to justify the expense. But just in case you’re not as aesthetically wowed as I was, just know you’re getting a quality toy as well!

Pretty, economically-priced, well-made, and mean as hell. Who could ask for anything more?
Just looking at these little fuckers you know they’re going to hurt. They’re surprisingly heavy and the springs are very tight. For all but the most hardcore masochist I would only recommend use on relatively insensitive parts of the body, such as the tops of the thighs. I’m still working up to taking them on my nipples and pussy lips for more than a few seconds, but once I can I imagine that the temperature play my lover and I have dabbled in already will be even more rewarding. As with all metal toys, keeping these in the freezer or hot water can result in some interesting sensations.
The toys are also of superior craftsmanship. When I first got the clamps I though that I would be able to loosen them up a bit, so as to put them to better use. Not so. The spring is sturdily constructed and won’t loosen up. Of course, this just means that these toys will be in my repertoire for many years to come.
Usually I expect middling quality from JT’s Stockroom and only moderately painful toys, but these little clothespins are some of the meanest, best-made toys I’ve come across. In fact, if they were more versatile and less hardcore, I would have given them five kisses instead of only four. But considering the price, you may want them in your toy box even if you’re not an extreme masochist or sadist.

While this strap isn’t actually called the Leather Belt Strap (rather, it’s nameless), I was one of those kids who got punished with my dad’s leather belt and this thing bears a resemblance while being at least twice as cruel. I.e. if you or your lover also had cruel parents, this thing can be great for a mind fuck. The leather is significantly heavier than that of a belt, but it has a belt-like, pointed tip and the perforations are reminiscent of those used to secure a buckle.
